(en) The article is devoted to the little-studied episode of the history of the Democratic republic of Afghanistan and the initial stage of the Soviet occupation of this country -the rebellion «Allah Akbar!» The events, the circumstances, preconditions, the course, scales and effects of the Kabul events of February, 1980 have been reproduced in a study based on disparate messages of the Soviet official periodicals (first of all, the “Pravda” newspaper) and testimonies of eyewitnesses. Hundreds of thousands of residents of the Afghan capital and neighboring settlements took part in disorders in Kabul in February, 1980. They were supported by separate units of the DRA Armed Forces. About a thousand members of the rebellion have been arrested. The Afghan army units, as well as the Soviet troops, armored machinery, and aircraft have been used to suppress the national performances. The author proves that the uprising «Allah Akbar!» became the first organized mass protest action of the Afghan society against the Soviet invasion and occupation of the country. The numerous facts of attacks on the premises and institutions, where the citizens of the USSR were, demonstrated to it. The Kabul events of February, 1980 had a significant impact on the moods of Afghan and Soviet leaders. They had shown that the puppet pro-Soviet regime of Babrak Karmal wouldn’t be able to retain power without the support of the Soviet troops. After the revolt in Kabul similar anti-Soviet performances have swept also on other cities. And in the spring 1980 Soviet armies were gradually involved in full-scale fighting against the Afghan opposition on the party of the unpopular regime. Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, Kabul, «limited contingent of Soviet troops», invasion, occupation, uprising, «Allah Akbar!»
