Анотація
(uk) В статті обґрунтована необхідність навчання учнів старших класів стандартів комунікативної поведінки в ситуаціях міжкультурного спілкування. Автор наводить приклади відеоматеріалів, які використовуються для аналізу невербальної поведінки носіїв мови. Пропонується методика опрацювання таких відео. В межах проблеми розглядається вербальна поведінка комунікантів: практика навчання small talks (невеличких бесід на початку розмови), що доцільно здійснювати у рольовій грі «На презентації». Тексти «Безпечні теми», «Культурні «так» та «ні» у британському суспільстві» дають змогу учням порівняти особливості вербальної поведінки в Україні та в країнах виучуваної мови.
(en) Intercultural communication is exchanging meaningful and unambiguous information across cultural boundaries, becoming more aware of and better understanding not only other cultures around the world, but your own culture and being able to present it in different cross-cultural encounters. The necessity of teaching senior pupils standards of communicative behavior is grounded in the article. The author gives examples of videos which can be used for analyzing nonverbal behavior of native speakers. The methodology of using these videos is proposed. The problem of teaching students some standards of communicative behavior also foresees the practice of using ‘small talks’. ‘Small talk’ is a casual form of conversation that “breaks the ice” or fills an awkward silence between people. In an English-speaking environment it is often better to make a few mistakes than to say nothing at all. The hardest part about making small talk is knowing how to start a conversation unless students know a few opening gambits. There are some useful ways of starting a conversation with a stranger in the article. They are practiced in the role play “At a Presentation”. The texts “Safe topics” and “Some British Conversational and Cultural Dos and Don’t’s” enable students to compare the peculiarities of people’s verbal behavior in Ukraine and English-speaking countries. “Safe topics” are considered to be weather and current events. Discussing personal information is not done between people who do not know each other well. Compliments on clothing or hair are acceptable; however, you should never say something (good or bad) about a person’s body. Negative comments about another person not involved in the conversation are also not acceptable and so on. To make it easier for students to understand the cultural differences the author prepared some questions of heuristic talk, for example: Can the same rules be applied to us? Do we expect other people to behave with us in the same way, as described in this text?
